Northeast Harbor Golf Club — Organized in 1895, the original 9-hole course was laid out in August, 1899 by J.G. Thorpe. Much of the course lay on what was Corson’s Farm. Some of the holes are across from Somes Sound, the only fjord on the North American east coast. In 1916 The Northeast Harbor Golf Club Corporation was formed to buy land for a permanent golf course. The first 9, holes 1-6, 13-15 were designed by Arthur Lockwood. As golf became more and more popular, the corporation offered another stock sale and rasied the money to buy more land for an additional 9 holes. Kebo Valley Golf Club – Established in 1888, Kebo Valley Golf Club is the oldest golf club in Maine, and eighth oldest golf club in United States, and has tested the skills of many of the country’s finest players, most influential politicians, and leaders of industry. 18 holes, 6,200 yards, par 70. 136 Eagle Lake Road, Bar Harbor. Bar Harbor Golf Course — A Phil Wogan design built in 1965, this links-style course is situated on the banks of the Jordan River, with incredibly peaceful and scenic water and mountain views. 18 holes, 6,631 yards, par 71. Blue Hill Country Club —Private, 9 hole golf course opened in 1916 and designed by Donald J. Ross. This picturesque course overlooks the Atlantic Ocean. Castine Golf Club — The current layout was designed by Willie Park, Jr. in 1922. Considered “one of the greatest golf architects of all time”, Park said the Castine course was one of his best. Famous for taking advantage of the natural terrain, Park’s design presents nine holes on Windmill Hill across from the Revolutionary War era Fort George and overlooking Castine Harbor and Blue Hill in the distance. 9-holes, 3,132 yards, par 35. 200 Battle Avenue, Castine. White Birches Golf Course — Public 9-hole course located in Hancock just over the Ellsworth town line along Rte 1 between Bar Harbor and the beautiful Downeast coast. Barren View Golf Course — Golf Magazine ran a list of what it regarded as the eight worst golf course names on the planet Earth. Barren View nailed down second place, taking a backseat only to Australia’s Cape Schanck Golf Course. Southwest Harbor Causeway Club — 9-holes of link style golf with multiple tee options, the front nine plays to 32 par measuring 2266 yards. The back nine of 2410 yards plays to 33 par. Small greens of velvet bent grass have served since 1923, exhibiting strong resistance to disease and drought all while offering the golfer a smooth, velvety putting surface.
